HOMEBIRTH & MIDWIFERY CARE

MIDWIFERY CARE-$7,000

It is an honor to serve families during such a transformational time in their lives, and it is a gift to be able to witness not only the birthing person's raw strength and power, but to watch them experience the deep love that comes with getting to know their new baby. I truly believe in giving elite care to ensure the families I serve are thriving. The $7,000 covers all prenatal care, care during labor and birth, & 6 postpartum visits for parent and baby.

I am a preceptor for student midwives—growing the next generations of midwives is very important. Students are part of the birth team, and participate in all aspects of care so that you get to know them and build a relationship with them on your pregnancy journey.

To make homebirth more accessible, I offer a sliding scale for families in need. I also offer a $500 discount for military families. If you have any questions about homebirth services, or sliding scale tiers please do not hesitate to ask!

Prenatal Care

Midwifery care with Sage Midwifery spans through pregnancy, labor, birth, and 12 weeks postpartum. Pregnant people may come into care as soon as they know that they are pregnant, and at times we are able to take “late to care” transfers. The first trimester is the most crucial time of pregnancy- when the embryo is building all of its organs. The goal is to work together as soon as possible to help set up your mind, body and spirit in the most optimal way with a focus on nourishment, adequate rest and self love. A pregnant client can expect to see the midwife on the schedule listed below with prenatal and postpartum appointments lasting at least an hour. In addition to the more clinical parts of care like monitoring blood pressure, listening to fetal heart tones, and measuring the pregnant person’s belly, the midwife and client discuss topics including nutrition, parenting, sex, and stress. Midwifery care is client-centered and there is no hierarchy between provider and client. For example, a midwife has ‘clients’, not ‘patients’--and it is these nuances in care (and our language!) that make it holistic and centered on the pregnant person and their family. All visits are done in the new Sage Midwifery office located at 8320 Professional Hill Drive, Fairfax, VA. For the 36 week prenatal visit, Sam comes to your home.

The typical prenatal schedule is:

-Once per month until 28 weeks

-Every two weeks until 36 weeks

-Weekly until birth

The Sage Midwifery office visit days are Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with home visits on Thursdays.

NEW ADDITIONS TO OUR MIDWIFERY PACKAGE!

-Sacred Birth Circle: A Group Prenatal. In the third trimester, clients who are in the same due window will join together in the Sage Midwifery office for a 2 hour visit focused on the final emotional and mental preparations as you grow your family. It includes a vitals and a “belly check” in one of the private clinic rooms, a group journaling session (journal included) to write to your baby and explore your hopes and dreams for them, and group crafting time to make labor and birth affirmations to hang in your birthing space. This counts as one of your prenatal visits!

-Surrender to Birth: a workshop exclusively for Sage Midwifery clients to explore the fears we hold about birth, led by Linsay Hiller.

Birth and Postpartum Care

**Sam goes on call 24/7 for clients beginning at 37 weeks, and attends the labor, birth, and immediate postpartum. Midwife Sam, another midwife or birth assistant, and a student will attend your birth. After birth, Sage Midwifery clients have SIX visits in the postpartum period:

-24-72 hours (in your home),

-7-10 days (in your home),

-2 weeks (in your home),

- 4 weeks (in your home),

- 6 weeks (office or telehealth),

-12 weeks (office or telehealth).

Postpartum visits last 60-90 minutes as Certified Professional Midwives are licensed and trained to care for the well-newborn for up to six weeks as well.  During postpartum visits we weigh baby, do vitals on parent and baby, and discuss breastfeeding/chestfeeding and any other topics that may arise.

Midwives are able to draw and order lab work, as well as order ultrasounds. Sam also does the newborn metabolic screen and newborn critical congenital heart defect screening (CCHD) 24 hours postpartum. We give parents a referral for the newborn hearing screen.
